FIGHTING
Fighting in Cyberpunk 2077 involves both ranged and melee combat, which are supported by your character’s stats, perks, and cyberware, in addition to your tactical skills. Ranged combat can use traditional power weapons, smart weapons that track enemies, or tech weapons that penetrate cover. Melee combat involves using fast and strong attacks, blocking, and countering, with an emphasis on timing and stamina management.
This video demonstrates the basics of melee combat in Cyberpunk 2077, including dodging, blocking, and pushing:
Ranged combat
- Power weapons: Are similar to traditional firearms, are very powerful, and can stagger enemies. You can also charge shots for more impact.
- Smart weapons: Track targets automatically, making them easier to use as they don’t require precise aiming.
- Tech weapons: Can penetrate cover and obstacles, allowing you to shoot through walls.
Melee combat
- Basic attacks: Use fast attacks for quick hits and strong attacks to stagger enemies, break guards, or manage stamina.
- Blocking and countering: Block incoming attacks by holding the block button and counter with a well-timed button press.
- Dodging: Double-tap the dodge button or use the d-pad to quickly move out of the way, making it harder for enemies to hit you.
- Special moves: Some abilities, like pushing, can be used to interrupt opponents.
- Grappling and slam attacks: Are also part of the melee system.
General combat tips
- Check your cyberware and stats: Your character’s build, stats, and cyberware are crucial and have a significant impact on your combat performance, even more so than your aiming skill.
- Manage stamina: Be mindful of your stamina, especially in melee, and use strong attacks to help manage it.
- Use combinations: Mix fast and strong attacks, blocks, and dodges to keep opponents off balance.
- Consider your equipment: You can only carry three ranged weapons at a time, so choose wisely. Ensure you have at least one melee weapon ready as well.
